What materials are heatshrink made from?

Heatshrink tubing come in a variety of materials for different uses and applications. These materials include Polyolefin, Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), Fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), Elastomeric, Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), Silicone and Viton.

 

What are the types of heatshrink that you can purchase?

There are two types of Heatshrink tubing: single wall tubing and dual wall tubing. Single wall tubing – This type of tubing is ideal for use when in electrical insulation or protection against abrasion and strain. Dual wall tubing – Ideal to use when in need to protect from corrosion or moisture.

 

How much will heat shrink tubing actually shrink?

Heatshrink tubing tends to be available in either 2:1 or 3:1 shrink ratios which means that the tubing has been expanded to twice or three times its fully recovered size. The greater the size variation of the underlying materials being covered, the larger the ration required.

2:1 will be the equivalent to a 50% shrink ratio.

3:1 will be the equivalent to 67% shrink ratio.
