How to use nylon and stainless steel cable tie guns

A cable tie gun is a device that is used to tighten cable ties to your specific requirement and tension. The device also has the ability cut off the excess of the cable tie so that there is no unnecessary bit off plastic or metal hanging off where you don’t want them to, as they might cause damage.

You can use these devices anywhere from DIY in the home, to the office or a trade job, such a builder or electrician. Whether it’s to sort out computer wires or other projects, the cable tie gun is more than capable for a variety of uses.

How to correctly use a cable tie gun

Cable tie guns are a very simple and easy device to operate. It is Ideal for electricians, mechanics and facility maintenance workers.

The cable tie tools come in two different designs, as shown below.

Trigger Operated cable tie tools

This type of tool is designed to be in the shape of a gun with a trigger, these are the tools GCT48IT (Cable Tie Installation Tool - Nylon up to 4.8mm) and GCTSSIT (Cable Tie Installation Tool for Stainless Steel Ties - Up to 7.9mm width). The first step to use this device is to wrap the tie around the bundle or the object you want to cable tie and pull tight with your hands at first.  Attach the gun at the tie head and press the trigger until it reaches the pre-set tension.

These guns also have a tension adjuster and will show you the strength level as a number on the handle so that you can be more precise.

These two cable tie guns have a specific design.

The first step for this tool is similar to the trigger operated tool, wrap the tie around the bundle or the object you want to cable tie and pull tight with your hands at first.  Attach the gun at the tie head and press the trigger until it reaches the pre-set tension. Some have a tension knob to increase or decrease the tension.

This device also works in the same principle as loading it with the cable tie and using the trigger to tighten and cutting off the excess from the cable tie.
